Symbian Planet – New Theme

September 30, 2009

sp_promo

Well it’s been quite some time since I’ve been able to update you guys with the latest and great rumblings in the Nokia themes.

Nokia has never been known to create nice themes that come shipped with a new device until recently. I’ve always thought the default theme that come build into S60 devices were very dull and plain. Here is a nre theme again by TehkSeven.

 slider-4

SMS Preview is a free application to download and use from Mobile Nordic. The company is the winner of the 2009 GSMA Mobile Innovation Award winner for Best Mobile Consumer Application with 118 Mobile, a real world directory lookup service.

SMS Preview is one of the great features included in the application that we found a lot of people could use on it´s own, so why not share it for free? Now you can instantly preview incoming SMS messages to see what is sent and who has sent it when the message arrives without a single click!

Save time and effort by not having to navigate to your message folder for those SMS messages that are not important.

  • No more worrying about those nagging “New Message” notifications and wondering what it is about.
  • See message previews for 5-60 seconds on the screen until it disappears or until you double click, the choice is yours.
  • Easy to setup and keep updated. No pain, it just works.
  • See name of unknown numbers in SMS Previews by upgrading if you want.
  • Click Download Now! and save to computerlogotype-1

Getting started with SMS Preview couldn’t be any easier. After installing the application, it starts automatically.

If the application has already been installed to the device or you later wish to change application settings, you can find the application from the main menu or the default folder for installed programs.

Happy to have Nokia 5530 – The Preview!

    September 29, 2009

      nokia5530xm_blue_right_lean-187x300

Last weekend i thought how about  buying something new and exciting for my wife.  And then the Achilles striked and 5530-  Nokia’s new addition to the touch world was in my hand. Cost $ 250 – INR 12500.

     The scoop on the newcomer
I know you all want the skinny on the 5530, but you already know it from the game. Yes, this phone has a large touch screen with tactile feedback (I like to say it touches you back) and no physical keys; a 3.2-megapixel camera and LED flash; Bluetooth, WiFi, and EDGE for all your connection needs; a music player for all the stuff you download from the Nokia Music Store; widescreen video playback at 640×360; hot-swappable MicroSD slot (4GB included); and a standard 3.5mm audio plug for your rocking headsets.

    Unboxing

    In the Box

he brightly colored box that was sent to me was HUGE and completely different than any recent Nokia device that was packed in a very small box. I have no idea why Nokia used such a large box and hope this isn’t what we actually see from the retail package shipping from Nokia USA. There was on a charger and small USB cable in the review box, but listed on the Nokia USA site you should find the following in the retail package:

    • Nokia 5530 XpressMusic
    • Nokia Battery BL-4U
    • Nokia Travel Charger AC-8U
    • Nokia Short Connectivity Cable CA-101
    • Nokia Stereo Headset WH-205
    • Nokia 4GB microSD memory card MU-41
    • MiniDVD
    • User Guide

    Nokia Booklet 3G – 600 Euros

    September 2, 2009

    nokia-booklet-3g

After more than 25 years as a pioneer and leader in the mobile industry, Nokia will bring its rich mobility heritage and knowledge to the PC world with the new, Windows based, Nokia Booklet 3G.

It’s got an Intel Atom, 120GB HDD, 1GB of RAM, WiFi, HDMI, and 3G . Now official on Nokia Europe site too.

Just when we thought things couldn’t get more competitive in the arena of laptops and netbooks, Nokia has announced its snazzy netbook called the Booklet 3G. Nokia seems to be diversifying into a hitherto much tried market of netbooks, in order to become a complete mobile solutions company

Growing number of people want the computing power of a PC with the full benefits of mobility,” said Kai Oistamo, Nokia’s Executive Vice President for Devices. “We are in the business of connecting people and the Nokia Booklet 3G is a natural evolution for us. Nokia has a long and rich heritage in mobility and with the outstanding battery life, premium design and all day, always on connectivity, we will create something quite compelling. In doing so we will make the personal computer more social, more helpful and more personal.”

The netbook itself looks pretty awesome, and many analysts feel it resembles the MacBook Air, instead of a regular netbook. The Booklet 3G is expected to run on Intel’s Atom processor though the speed of which is not known yet. Nokia would also use Microsoft’s Windows OS though it is not clear yet if they would be using a stripped down or a full version.

The coolest feature however has to be the claimed 12 hour battery life which would give Nokia an edge over other popular netbooks in the market. It would have a screen of 10 inches and would weigh just 1.25 kilograms making it extremely portable, and convenient to use. Nokia would be competing with pioneers of netbook Asus, and also Dell and HP who have their own versions of netbooks

The Booklet 3G is feature rich, snazzy, chic, portable and comes from the house of Nokia, and thus things can’t really go wrong here. Many analysts however fear Nokia is venturing into a saturated market and that too with razor sharp competition which could hurt their already bleeding profits. Nevertheless, Nokia seems to see this as an opportunity to diversify its market and take on Apple and other companies which have products for both cell phone and netbook users.

Time to bargain on my HP Mini.
